Poor Posture & Forward Head Posture

Forward head posture, rounded shoulders, and a lost spinal curve don't just affect how you stand, they change how weight moves through your whole spine.

Why posture is more than how you look standing up

Posture is really a reflection of how your spine is holding its structure under everyday load. Forward head posture, rounded shoulders, and a flattened or exaggerated spinal curve all change how weight is distributed through your joints, which is part of why postural problems so often show up as headaches, neck tension, or upper back pain rather than as posture itself.

"Text neck," the rounded, head-forward posture that comes from looking down at a phone for hours a day, is one of the more common patterns we see across age groups, from teenagers to office workers to retirees who spend a lot of time reading or on a tablet.

Signs your posture is becoming a structural issue

  • Your ears sit noticeably forward of your shoulders when you stand naturally
  • Rounded shoulders that don't fully pull back, even when you try
  • Neck or upper back tightness by the end of most days
  • Headaches that start at the base of the skull
  • A visible increase in the curve of your upper back

How we measure it

Computerized postural analysis and digital X-rays show us exactly where your posture has shifted, instead of relying on a visual guess. That analysis typically compares where key landmarks on your body, like your ear, shoulder, and hip, line up against a vertical reference, so the shift gets measured in a way we can track visit to visit.

How we treat it

Postural correction here is built on CBP: mirror-image adjusting, postural traction, and strength work aimed at holding the new position, not just loosening tight muscles for a day. Our Posture Correction service page covers the full plan.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can posture actually be corrected as an adult?+

In many cases, yes, though it takes a structured plan over time rather than a single adjustment. We'll be honest with you about what's realistic after your exam.

Is poor posture just cosmetic?+

No. It changes how load moves through your spine and joints, which is why it so often turns into headaches, neck pain, or upper back tension over time.

How long does it take to notice postural changes?+

It varies by how long the pattern has been present. Most plans are measured in weeks and months, not a single visit, since bone and connective tissue remodel gradually.

Can kids develop postural problems from phones and tablets?+

Yes, forward head posture from screen time is something we see across a wide age range, including kids and teenagers.

Do you track whether posture correction is actually working?+

Yes, with follow-up postural analysis and digital X-rays compared against your starting point, so progress is measured, not assumed.
