Neck Pain Relief

Assessment and treatment of neck pain caused by poor posture, injury, or spinal misalignment. Combines adjustments, manual therapy, and rehab exercises for lasting relief.

Common causes of neck pain we see

  • Poor posture and forward head carriage from hours on a phone or laptop
  • Whiplash or other injury
  • Spinal misalignment in the cervical spine
  • Chronic tension that keeps returning
  • Stress-related muscle tension held in the shoulders and neck

Why forward head posture is such a common culprit

The neck is built to carry the weight of your head directly over your shoulders, in a slight forward curve. Every inch that your head shifts forward, like it does when you look down at a phone or lean toward a screen, adds meaningfully more load through the muscles and joints of your neck. Held long enough, that extra load is what turns into chronic tension and pain.

Over time, that posture can pull the upper back into more of a rounded curve while the lower neck loses its natural forward curve, a pattern sometimes called upper crossed syndrome. It tends to feed neck pain, shoulder tension, and headaches together rather than as separate problems.

How posture-related neck pain turns into headaches

Cervicogenic headaches are headaches that actually originate in the neck rather than the head itself. The nerves at the top of the cervical spine share a pathway with the nerve that carries pain signals from the face and head, so irritation in the upper neck can be felt as head pain.

That connection is part of why correcting the underlying neck posture and alignment, rather than only treating where the headache is felt, tends to produce more lasting results.

How we evaluate your neck pain

We start with digital X-rays and postural analysis to see exactly what's misaligned in your cervical spine, rather than guessing based on where it hurts today.

Your treatment plan

Most neck pain plans combine adjustments, manual therapy, and rehab exercises, sometimes with cervical traction, aimed at correcting the underlying alignment issue instead of just loosening tight muscles for a day.

Why North River

Dr. Johns treats neck pain as a structural issue first, using CBP and mirror-image adjusting to correct the cause, not just relieve the symptom.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

When should I see someone about neck pain?+

If it's persistent, follows an injury, or keeps coming back after it seems to resolve, it's worth an evaluation rather than waiting it out.

Will you crack my neck?+

Adjustments are delivered manually, on a drop table, or with an instrument, whichever fits your comfort and what the correction calls for. We'll talk through what to expect before we start.

Can poor posture really cause neck pain?+

Yes. Forward head posture from phone and laptop use is one of the most common causes of neck pain we see.

How fast will I feel relief?+

Some patients feel looser after the first visit, but lasting relief for a structural cause usually takes a full plan, not a single adjustment.

Can a pinched nerve in my neck cause pain down my arm?+

Yes, irritation or compression of a nerve in the cervical spine can refer pain, numbness, or tingling into the shoulder, arm, or hand. It's something we check for specifically during your evaluation.
