Physiotherapy

Therapeutic exercises and modalities that support healing and restore function. Often used for patients recovering from injury or managing chronic musculoskeletal conditions.

What physiotherapy at North River includes

Physiotherapy here means targeted exercises and supportive modalities chosen to restore how a joint or muscle group actually functions, not a generic printout of stretches.

That might mean targeted stretching, strengthening exercises for the muscles supporting a joint, or guided movement work to retrain a pattern that's been compensating for pain.

A lot of that compensation happens without you noticing. Once one joint or muscle group is guarded from pain, the body routes movement around it, and other areas start absorbing load they weren't built to carry. Part of the work is identifying and retraining those patterns, not just the original area of complaint.

How a rehab plan typically progresses

Early sessions usually focus on calming irritated tissue and restoring basic movement. As that settles, the focus shifts to building strength and stability around the area, and finally to movement that matches what you actually need to do, whether that's picking up a grandchild or getting back on a job site.

Progressing too quickly through those stages tends to flare things back up, and progressing too slowly leaves strength and mobility on the table. Dr. Johns adjusts the pace based on how you're responding at each visit.

How it works with your adjustment plan

An adjustment corrects alignment. Physiotherapy builds the strength and mobility around that correction, so gains from your adjustments and traction work are more likely to stick between visits.

Who benefits most

  • Patients recovering from an injury
  • Chronic musculoskeletal conditions that flare with activity
  • Anyone whose structural rehab plan calls for strength or mobility work
  • Patients working to regain strength after a period of reduced activity

Why North River

Physiotherapy is built into your broader care plan here, coordinated with your adjustments and traction rather than handled as a separate, disconnected service.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is physiotherapy separate from my adjustment visits?+

It's part of the same plan. Dr. Johns coordinates physiotherapy with your adjustments and rehab so they work toward the same goal.

Will I be given exercises to do at home?+

Often, yes, alongside what's done in-office, to keep progress moving between visits.

Is physiotherapy only for injury recovery?+

No. It's also used for chronic musculoskeletal conditions and as ongoing support within a structural rehab program.

How long until I notice a difference?+

It varies by condition and consistency. We'll set expectations for you once we know what we're working with.

Do I need a referral for physiotherapy?+

No. It's part of your care plan at North River, and Dr. Johns builds it in based on your exam and imaging, with no outside referral required.
